To the Families of the Mar Thoma Church of New Jersey, Randolph,

Almighty God has enabled us to cross the half way point of the year 2016. As we move forward, let us look into our spiritual life and how much we have labored for the Kingdom of God. As Christians, we have a great responsibility not only to grow spiritually, but to work out our salvation through our daily life (Philippians 2:12). This involves a creative and positive response to the gospel, through active (not passive) engagement with Christian faith.

In today’s media and pop culture, there are many depictions of role models (especially in the form of actors, superstars, music artists, etc), and this includes models of good and bad characteristics. Many of us look up to them and attempt to emulate their persona and lifestyle as a part of our own. We need to understand that God created us in His image and likeness, so that we could reflect His glory in our life. Paul in his 1st letter to Timothy says: “Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (4:12)

We must be actively engaged in spiritual work. This is called Mission in the Marketplace. We are continuously in the “market” (which includes our homes, schools, workplaces, or other places outside of the church). These are spheres of influence, in which we are greatly impacted, but where we also have a great ability to impact. Being a Christian role model is the greatest gift we can give to the world. As we are in the summer months, let us reflect, repent, and renew our lives. Remember that we are clay in the potter’s hands (Isaiah 64:8).

I encourage you to attend the various camps, retreats, and conferences planned on the parish, regional, & Diocesan levels. I wish all of you a blessed, productive, and Christ-centered summer.

                                            Yours in Christ,
