The Mar Thoma Church of New Jersey marks four decades of worship, witness and community — from our founding in 1981 to this ruby milestone.
A Message for This Milestone
Forty years ago, a small gathering of Mar Thoma families in Teaneck, New Jersey, dared to believe that God was calling them together. From that first service in October 1980 to the founding of our parish in January 1981, the Lord has been our guide, our strength, and our song.
This Ruby Jubilee is our Ebenezer — our stone of remembrance — testifying that He who began a good work in us will carry it to completion.

First gathering on October 12, 1980, in Teaneck. The parish is officially constituted on April 5, 1981 in Newark, under the Diocese of North America and Europe.
Sunday School, Yuvajana Sakhyam and Sevika Sangham are established. The parish is formally organised with elected officers and a constitution.
Edavaka Mission outreach, the formation of the Choir, and Prayer Groups deepen the parish’s life of worship and service to the surrounding community.
The congregation moves to its permanent home at 790 State Route 10 West, Randolph — a milestone sixteen years in the making.
The new sanctuary is dedicated by Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus, Suffragan Bishop — a day of celebration, prayer and commissioning.
Malayalam and English bilingual services are established, welcoming the second generation into full participation in the liturgical life of the parish.
The fortieth anniversary of the parish — celebrated with thanksgiving, testimonies, and renewed commitment to “Lighted to Lighten” for the decades ahead.
